  1. Thanks for the link, Brother Francis! I see that you, too, have noticed the frustrating lack of available translations for the Liber Divinorum Operum and are trying to fill the gaps.

I don't know if you had seen, but I put together a full translation of LDO III.3 last week to honor the doctoral declaration: http://nathaniel-campbell.blogspot.com/2012/10/hildegard-of-bingen-liber-divinorum-operum-III-3.html

I also gave a paper a few years ago on the opening vision of the LDO, which includes several passages translated: http://nathaniel-campbell.blogspot.com/2009/02/divine-love-as-both-creative-and.html

May the Visionary Doctor (which is the title I'm leaning towards, because of its comprehensive simplicity) pray for us all to share in the illumination of the Living Light with which Our Lord blessed her!

  2. I wrote a long reply and it got destroyed in a failed page request. :( You'd think by now I would have learned to always copy what I write before pushing the submit button.

I thank you for the work you've done, it is very encouraging and I will be looking at it as I continue my study of LDO. Most modern translations are apparently based on the German, and the Spanish one I found online - though it is complete and very welcomed - wanders far from the text at difficult junctures resulting in something that flows but is difficult if not impossible to extrapolate from the original Latin.

Visionary Doctor definitely has universal appeal. I am partial to something suggestive of her Theology of Creation - especially referencing the LDO (Doctor of Creation, Doctor of the Divine Work, Doctor of Created Nature, etc.) - probably because I am a son of St. John (the Evangelist) and it is her most explicitly Johannine work.

I hope to exchange with you in the future about St. Hildegard and the translation of LDO!

    Peace and Blessings,
    Br Francis Therese
